STS and Metasonixx: metamaterials for industrial soundproofing
A collaboration has been launched between STS Isolamenti and Metasonixx Ltd., an award-winning UK-based start-up specializing in advanced sound control technologies. Together, the two companies have developed a pioneering project that places metamaterials at the heart of a new frontier in industrial soundproofing. The initiative aims to redefine the boundaries of acoustics by harnessing cutting-edge technologies to tackle noise pollution, particularly in high-precision manufacturing environments where stringent safety standards are essential.
The first challenge, successfully overcome, involved close collaboration between Metasonixx and STS Isolamenti to solve a noise problem in the production department of a prestigious company in the luxury jewellery industry. The acoustic disturbance generated by ultrasonic cleaning machines, which are essential for achieving precision in jewellery treatment, posed a significant challenge to employee well-being and the quality of the working environment.
Thanks to STS Isolamenti’s technical expertise and design capabilities, combined with Metasonixx’s innovative SonoBlind® panel technology, it was possible to drastically reduce noise levels without disrupting production activities. SonoBlind® panels feature a patented internal geometry designed to guide sound waves so that they cancel each other out.
