Which materials are used for Sound Insulation?

This is a perfectly understandable and legitimate question, based on the common belief that the material itself is the key factor in solving a noise problem.
Materials are certainly important, because if a material is unsuitable for its intended purpose and lacks the necessary physical properties, the results may be seriously compromised.

Consider, for example, the use of certain materials mistakenly regarded as suitable for both thermal and acoustic insulation, such as polystyrene, expanded polystyrene and polyurethane foams.

These materials possess only one of the many characteristics required to achieve satisfactory acoustic performance.

In reality, thermal and acoustic insulation rarely go hand in hand, because they are two very different fields of application, each governed by specific but distinct laws of physics.

It is therefore advisable to be cautious when dealing with claims of combined thermal and acoustic insulation. These two concepts should be kept clearly separate when the goal is to achieve precise, effective and, above all, long-lasting results.

That said, the key point is that there are many materials with properties suitable for solving acoustic problems. In many cases, one material can be substituted for another while still delivering equally excellent results, provided that the relevant physical properties and performance requirements are carefully considered when selecting the products.
